TOMMY CASTRO AND THE PAINKILLERS
Stompin' Ground (2017)
Tommy Castro, born in San Jose (California, U.S.A.) in 1955, starts to play the guitar when he is only 10.
He then moves to San Francisco, where he successfully attracts a wider audience thanks to his devotion to extremely hot blooded and impetuous blues.
"No Foolin’", a self-produced album released in 1993, is his debut record, followed by works in which blues is supported by vigorous rock blasts and engaging soul atmospheres.
In 2014, he chooses The Painkillers as support band for his live concerts and studio recording sessions. 2017's record, "Stompin’ Ground" (attributed to Tommy Castro And The Painkillers, of course) is a sequence of tormented blues tracks, in which soul emerges vehemently, enveloping and luring the audience into an emotional vortex.
"Stompin’ Ground" (produced by Castro himself with Kid Andersen) features David Hidalgo (of the Los Lobos band), harmonicist Charlie Musselwhite, Danielle Nicole (singer of Trampled Under Foot band, and boasting 2015's excellent album "Wolf Den"), and guitarist Mike Zito (the latter playing with the CD owner in a torrential version of the track "Rock Bottom" by Elvin Bishop and Jo Baker).
