Pulling off a classy mix of two musical genres such as soul and jazz is no easy thing. But Kandace Springs, a singer and pianist of the highest calibre, has done just that.
Her record, “The Women Who Raised Me”, doesn’t just pay homage to the female figures who have influenced her artistic style and musical experiences – it also provides a shining example of her supreme class as a performer.
Springs fills the album with tracks made famous by names like Norah Jones, Sade, Roberta Flack, Diana Krall, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday.
”The Women Who Raised Me” was recorded for the prestigious Blue Note record label and sees the participation of (among others) bassist Christian McBride, saxophonists David Sanborn and Chris Potter, flutist Elena Pinderhughes, and pianist Norah Jones.
