MACEO PARKER
Soul Food Cooking With Maceo (2020)
The militancy in the ranks of James Brown’s band has helped make all of Maceo Parker’s solo work fresh and involving.
The American saxophonist and singer has put to good use not only his collaboration with James Brown, but also his work with Parliament-Funkadelic. The 2020 album, ”Soul Food Cooking With Maceo”, for example, cracks open some solid R&B tracks (“Yes We Can Can” by Allen Toussaint and “Right Place Wrong Time” by Dr.John), and some heavy funk (Aretha Franklin’s ”Rock Steady”), all without neglecting some easy-going jazz (Prince’s ”Other Side Of The Pillow”).
