LLOYD JONES

Tennessee Run (2020)

Little-known and undoubtedly undervalued, singer and guitarist Lloyd Jones attempts to leap to (well-deserved) fame with his eighth album “Tennessee Run”. Each of the 14 tracks (composed by Jones himself) transpires Blues from all pores and thanks to a lively horn section (trombone, tenor sax, trumpet), the jaunty keyboards effortlessly played by Kevin McKendree (collaborator of Tom Principato and Lee Roy Parnell as well as the producer of “Tennessee Run”), the voices (as well as the main one) of LaRhonda Steele (in “That’s All I Want”), Teresa James (in “I Wish I Could Remember Loving You”) and Delbert McClinton (in the 3’38” of “Everybody’s Somebody’s Fool”), the album turns towards a more caliente R&B with sharp forays into an unstoppable, fiery funk.
It will be difficult to stand still (maximum volume is highly recommended) to the open track “You Got Me Good” (an enticing visiting card…) or the incandescent “Where’s My Phone”? or the curvaceous “Bayou Boys” (with an organ inspired to Mckendree) or the nippy ‘Chevrolet Angel’, used to close a joyful dispenser of good vibrations.
