AMERICAN AQUARIUM
Chicamacomico (2022)
The U.S. Marine Rescue Station Chicamacomico (built in 1874 and currently converted into a museum) is located in Rodanthe, on Hatteras Island, along the coast of North Carolina.
"Chicamacomico" inspired the recent ninth studio album by the excellent band formed in Raleigh (capital of the State of North Carolina) in 2006, American Aquarium.
Led by the singer and songwriter (also from North Carolina, Greensboro to be exact) BJ Barham, the American Aquarium formation is one of the brightest realities that the world of indie rock and alternative country is currently able to offer.
The ten enthralling tracks of the "Chicamacomico" album transport the listener into a world of poetic beauty populated by stories of abandonment and painful losses, but also of hopes placed in the unstoppable advance of time and the therapeutic and soothing aspect of music.
It is all supported and embellished by valuable flourishes of sound created by Shane Boeker (guitar), Rhett Huffman (keyboards), Neil Jones (pedal steel guitar), Ryan Van Fleet (drums), Alden Hedges (bass) and the aforementioned BJ Barham on vocals.
