ROZI PLAIN

Prize (2023)

The singer-songwriter Rozi Plain starts off 2023 with the album "Prize", released by Memphis Industries, a London-based record label founded in 1998 by brothers Ollie and Matt Jacob.
Born in 1986 in Winchester (southern England), she moved first to Bristol and later to London. Rozi Plain (stage name of Rosalind Leyden) confirms herself as an excellent alchemist of folk sounds (but also jazz, blues and pleasant psychedelia) imbued with electronic sounds without falling into the trap of difficult and hermetic pentagrams.
The ten songs on "Prize" (all composed by the songwriter) lead the listener into dreamy and seductive territories, also thanks (apart from the voice, guitar, synthesizers, bass, piano and percussion managed by Plain) to the support, among others, of Jamie Whitby Coles (drums, vocals, synthesizer, percussion as well as co-producer with Plain of the album), Alabaster DePlume (saxophone, guest also in the excellent "Weather Alive" by Beth Orton), Kate Stables (vocals), James Howard (guitar), Serafina Steer (harp).
