MONSTER MIKE WELCH

Nothing But Time (2023)

Mike Welch is a forty-four-year-old American guitarist with an enviable level of interpretative class. From a very young age, he displayed a groundbreaking technique coupled with an overwhelming passion for blues music. His extraordinary skill earned him the nickname "Monster" after a performance at the House Of Blues in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1992, bestowed upon him by the venue's owner, the musician and actor Dan Aykroyd.
After being a part of the prolific group Sugar Ray & The Bluetones, Welch embarked on his solo career in 1996 with the album "These Blues Are Mine".
His love for blues music, a dedication that has garnered him three Blues Music Award nominations in recent years, is evident in his recent, gritty record titled "Nothing But Time".
Out of the 14 tracks on the album, an impressive 10 bear the artist's signature. The remaining three songs pay homage to musicians whom Monster Mike Welch has always acknowledged as "masters": Robert Johnson (with reinterpretations of "If I Had Possession Over Judgement Day" and "Kind Hearted Woman Blues"), George Harrison ("I Me Mine") and Buddy Guy (with a personal, relentless, and vigorous reinterpretation of "Ten Years Ago").
