DAVID CROSBY (1941 – 2023)

Giovedì 19 gennaio, all’età di 81 anni, è deceduto (in seguito a una lunga malattia) il cantautore David Crosby.

La moglie Jan Dance (sposata nel 1987) ha così comunicato la perdita del marito: “It is with great sadness after a long illness, that our beloved David (Croz) Crosby has passed away. He was lovingly surrounded by his wife and soulmate Jan and son Django. Although he is no longer here with us, his humanity and kind soul will continue to guide and inspire us. His legacy will continue to live on through his legendary music. Peace, love, and harmony to all who knew David and those he touched. We will miss him dearly. At this time, we respectfully and kindly ask for privacy as we grieve and try to deal with our profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers.”

Nato il 14 agosto 1941 a Los Angeles, David Van Cortlandt Crosby è stato un artista fondamentale nell'evoluzione della musica rock.

Componente e fondatore della band The Byrds, Crosby raggiunge l’apice della sua popolarità quando unisce il suo talento a quello di Stephen Stills e Graham Nash (e, in seguito, anche a quello di Neil Young).

La sua firma compare in decine e decine di composizioni, vere pietre miliari della nuova musica statunitense (Guinnevere, Wooden Ships, Almost Cut My Hair, Delta, Long Time Gone, Laughing, Music Is Love e altre ancora) e il suo nome figura in lavori discografici di innumerevoli artisti: David Gilmour, Carole King, Jackson Browne, Jason Isbell And The 400 Unit, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Jefferson Airplane, Jeff Bridges, Bonnie Raitt solo per citarne una minima parte.

Il suo imperdibile capolavoro da solista del febbraio 1971 If I Could Only Remember My Name è uno dei più completi e affascinanti album mai pubblicati in ambito di musica rock.

La più recente pubblicazione a suo nome risale al luglio 2021 e reca titolo For Free, mentre a nome David Crosby & The Lighthouse Band l’album registrato dal vivo Live At The Capitol Theatre è stato pubblicato il 22 novembre 2022.

Ha ricoperto anche il ruolo di attore in fugaci apparizioni nei film Hook (Hook – Capitan Uncino, 1991, diretto da Steven Spielberg), Backdraft (Fuoco assassino, 1991, diretto da Ron Howard), Thunderheart (Cuore di tuono, 1992, diretto da Michael Apted) e in alcune serie televisive.
